A previously ordinary tract home gains calmness, creativity, and brightness through a revitalized remodel of the master bathroom, closet, and guest bathroom.
Written by Wilson HackThe client, a yoga instructor, aimed to infuse her bathroom with the serene, distant ambiance of her yoga retreats, transforming it into a haven of calm and relaxation.
Suzanna stripped the bathroom down to the studs and applied a natural-colored plaster to the walls, seamlessly transitioning to a waterproof finish for the shower. The pebble floor adds a nuanced, textured contrast to the smooth walls.
Suzanna reconfigured the space by taking some area from the existing closet and relocating the entry to the master bedroom. This allowed for the installation of two his-and-hers vanity sinks atop custom oak cabinetry. The cabinets extend vertically into a previously unused corner, providing additional storage for jewelry and other items. An exquisite soapstone countertop adds organic rhythm, complemented by textured Kohler sinks. "Texture, texture, texture!" Suzanna exclaims.
While texture is paramount, it is ultimately the three materials: stone, wood, and plaster that creates a serene and harmonious Bali-inspired bathroom retreat.
In addition to the master bathroom, a luxurious new master closet was added, featuring an updated entrance from the bedroom. Suzanna designed a custom his-and-hers dresser with laundry and open shelving above for ample storage. A central shoe rack divides the two sections, creating an artful display of footwear. The Saint Frank wallpaper on the ceiling adds a touch of ethnic Kuba cloth flair, perfectly balanced by swaths of blue paint on the custom millwork. Refined yet organic, this closet evokes the sophistication of enjoying a scotch or a cigar, as much as the practicality of getting dressed.
In the guest bathroom, while much stayed unchanged, we waved goodbye to the builder-grade vanity and welcomed the elegance of plaster walls. Custom vanity and storage cabinets now grace the space, each casting a stylish reflection in the mirror above the sink. From Restoration Hardware, this mirror cleverly conceals storage and a discreet plug area behind its sleek facade. And to maintain that spa-like ambiance from the master bathroom, we added a graceful waterfall faucet.
