Written by Wilson HackThe existing house was outdated and dark. Dave wanted a kitchen island but there was simply not enough space. By dipping into the existing laundry room in the back right corner (and relocating this area to the garage), sufficient square footage was gained to accommodate a more open layout.
The entire kitchen was outfitted with IKEA cabinets with Semihandmade doors. Dave handcrafted the wood pulls and the dropdown open shelving directly below the upper cabinets. Custom handmade kitchenware, Suzanna’s own creations, sit beautifully in plain sight.
Suzanna added skylights to harness maximum light from above; in addition, a larger window was added above the sink to further infuse light into the space. The oversized wooden frame doubles as an additional storage shelf, adding texture and craft to every corner. Exquisite handmade backsplash tiles from Era Ceramics further reveal additional layers of craftsmanship and organic detailing. The result is a thoughtful and economical artistic design collaboration.
