Master Bath

The client, a yoga instructor, wanted to bring in the far-away feeling of her yoga retreats in order to make her bathroom feel like a place of calm and relaxation.

Suzanna took the bathroom down to the studs and toned the walls in a natural colored plaster, transitioning seamlessly into water-proof finish for the shower. The pebble floor complements the smooth walls with a nuanced textured effect.

Suzanna took some of the space from the existing closet and relocated the entry into the master bedroom to allow for two his-and-hers vanity sinks, built on top of custom oak cabinetry. The cabinets climb vertically in an otherwise unused corner, adding more storage for jewelry and other odds and ends. The exquisite soapstone countertop adds organic rhythm, punctuated by textured Kohler sinks. "Texture, texture, texture!" Suzanna exclaims!

While texture reigns, it is ultimately three materials—stone, wood, and plaster—that are used to great effect, creating a calm and harmonious Bali bathroom retreat.

Closet

In addition to the master bathroom, a new master closet was added with an updated entrance from the bedroom. Suzanna designed a his-and-hers dresser, laundry and open shelving above for ample storage. A shoe rack in the middle divides the two sections, allowing for an art-like display of footwear. The Saint Frank wallpaper on the ceiling accentuates an ethnic Kuba cloth pop, balanced by the swaths of blue paint on the custom closet millwork. Refined yet organic, this closet is one that hints at having a scotch or a cigar as much as it does putting on pants.

Guest Bath

For the guest bathroom, much remained the same, although the builder grade vanity was replaced and plaster walls were added throughout. Matching custom vanity and storage cabinets were installed; the reflection of each can be seen through the mirror hanging over the sink. Selected from Restoration Hardware, the mirror subtly hides storage and an area for plugs behind. A waterfall faucet was added to continue the spa feeling from the master bathroom.
